An Hour of Prayer for 'Invite Australia'
Every Monday morning Charles phones the Holy Trinity Brompton offices to ask about the events and services taking place during the week, and the people involved in them. For decades, he and his prayer group have faithfully supported the church in prayer. Nicky Gumbel says their prayers may be invisible but they are also invaluable. (Bible In One Year, 10 July 2016)
I encourage you as you pray today that although you may feel invisible your prayers are invaluable.
Jesus is the great intercessor. He ‘made intercession for the transgressors’ (Isaiah 53:12). He ‘is at the right hand of God and is also interceding for us’ (Romans 8:34; see also Hebrews 7:25). The Holy Spirit also intercedes for us and through us: ‘The Spirit himself intercedes for us with groans that words cannot express… the Spirit intercedes for the saints in accordance with God’s will’ (Romans 8:26–27). (Nicky Gumbel, Bible In One Year, 10 July 2016)
Thanks for praying for Invite Australia. Below are some suggestions to help you pray for an hour. If you pray for each point for 6 minutes you will have prayer for an hour.
1. Thanksgiving and Adoration
“Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good; his love endures for ever.” (1 Chronicles 16:34 NIVUK)
“Pray like this: Our Father in heaven, may your name be kept holy.” (Matthew 6:9 NLT)
Give thanks to the Lord for a 44% increase in the number of Alphas registered this year. There were 532 completed Alphas by the end of June, which at an average of 15 people per group, is over 8,000 people who have attended an Alpha this year.
For every volunteer who has been involved in running Alpha.
For every person that has said yes to Jesus.
For the families who are being transformed by the love of God.
2. Prayer for our nation’s leaders
“I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for all people – for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness.” (1 Timothy 2:1–2 NIVUK)
Lord I pray for our nation - that we may once again rediscover the power of the word of God and listen to your prophets, who speak in accordance with your word. May there be repentance and a change of heart in our leaders and our nation. (Nicky Gumbel, Bible In One Year, 11 July 2016)
3. Prayer for church and ministry leaders
“Be devoted to prayer, keeping alert in it with thanksgiving. At the same time pray for us too, that God may open a door for the message so that we may proclaim the mystery of Christ, for which I am in chains. Pray that I may make it known as I should.” Colossians 4:2-4 (NET Bible®)
Pray for clergy to be hungry to see souls saved.
Pray for those ministers who are married; for strengthening of their marriages and protection of their relationships with their spouses and their children.
Prayer for the Australian Church
Lord we cry out to you for restoration and revival. Would you restore your church in this country. Revive us again. May our nation turn back to you, begin to worship you again, enjoy your presence and, on our knees before you, see things from the right perspective. (Nicky Gumbel, Bible In One Year, 13 July 2016)
4. Pray for more people to respond to the call to intercede
“But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.” (Matt 6:6 NIV UK)
5. Pray for more workers
“After this the Lord appointed seventy-two others and sent them two by two ahead of him to every town and place where he was about to go. 2 He told them,‘The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field.” (Luke 10:1-2)
Pray for people to respond to God’s calling to go their families, to the marketplace, to schools, universities, sports clubs; wherever God is calling them to.
6. Pray for healing of our nation
[If] My people, who are called by My Name, humble themselves, and pray and seek (crave, require as a necessity) My face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear [them] from heaven, and forgive their sin and heal their land. (2 Chronicles 7:14 AMP)
7. Pray for salvation
“Sow for yourselves according to righteousness (uprightness and right standing with God); reap according to mercy and loving-kindness. Break up your uncultivated ground, for it is time to seek the Lord, to inquire for and of Him, and to require His favor, till He comes and teaches you righteousness and rains His righteous gift of salvation upon you.” (Hosea 10:12 AMP)
“ Our Father in heaven, Reveal who you are.” (Matthew 6:9 MSG)
Pray for people to have a revelation of the Father and of Jesus love and sacrifice.
May seekers not be satisfied with their conclusions about the meaning of life until they find the One who is the way, the truth, and the life.
May people make room for God in their thoughts.
May people humble themselves as they realise they are sinners who need a Saviour.
May seekers keeping seeking, keep asking and keep knocking until they open the door to Jesus.

your kingdom come,
your will be done,
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us today our daily bread.
And forgive us our debts,
as we also have forgiven our debtors.
And lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from the evil one.”
(Matthew 6:9-13 NIV UK)
