Stu Harris is the General Manager of Australian Christian Channel (ACCTV), which reaches over 200,000 Australians with the Gospel every month. His journey to this influential role started with him visiting a church then attending Alpha. Here, Stu shares his story…
Back in 2001, I had a good job with Apple UK and a very successful career. I thought I was enjoying life to the full but after a while, I questioned the value of the lifestyle. There was no real depth to my life and I became depressed.
It was a very difficult time because everyone thought I had it all together but inside I was really tormented. A lot of it was connected to the broken relationships I had.
During this personal crisis, I started searching for answers and ended up going to Holy Trinity Brompton (HTB) with a friend. I was open to the idea that there was something out there bigger than us – I just didn’t know what it was. The service was far beyond what I expected, and afterwards one of the pastors invited me to Alpha that week.
I went to Alpha and it was so exciting. I thought Hindus, Muslims, Buddhists and every other religion were worshipping the same god and just had different paths to him. Then I read John 14:6 where Jesus states, “I am the way, the truth and the life”. This verse was pivotal and really made me think. Jesus doesn’t give us other options. He doesn’t say, “I’m one of the ways”, but, “I am the way”.
So, in the early weeks of Alpha, I made the decision to follow Jesus. I didn’t need to know everything, but I knew if I kept following this path, I’d get to know God.
Alpha was a life-changer. It came along at just the right time, changed my perspective on God, and gave me direction. It was powerful!
Fifteen years on I’m still following Jesus. I’m married with three kids, I’ve been to Bible college, and I’m the General Manager at ACCTV. My life now has completeness and unmatchable purpose.
Stu’s testimony is a reminder that you never know who’ll come along to Alpha and how God will change their life! Thank you for your support – and please pray that more lives like Stu’s will be reached for Christ!
