We are excited about the Easter Invitation and we are so glad that you have chosen to join the hundreds of other churches around the nation running Alpha in Term 2 this year. Alpha is a series of interactive sessions that freely explores the basics of the Christian faith and allows guests to openly share their ideas in a non-judgmental environment.
Contextualise Your Alpha Sessions
Planning is a key aspect to Alpha. To do this well, we need to consider the type of guests that will be attending our interactive sessions. Who exactly is our audience? As Alpha is a great resource for people on the fringe of Christianity or those who have never been inside a church building, it's important we consider who our likely audience will be. Here are some helpful questions to ask when planning Alpha:
Who is our audience?
Age, ethnicity, demographic, where do they spend most of their time? How do they normally ask & discuss life’s big questions? Where do they prefer to gather?
Where do we run Alpha?
Should we run Alpha at church or in a neutral location? Where is a place that our audience will feel comfortable? What do we need in the room?
When should we run Alpha?
Given our audience, what is the best day and time in the week? Could we have 2 Alpha’s running each week at different times i.e. a day Alpha and a night Alpha?
Which Alpha should we use?
Given our audience, should we use the new Alpha with Nicky Gumbel, Alpha with Jamie Haith (known also as Student Alpha) or Alpha Youth Film Series? Could we do live talks or a combination of videos and live talks?
