We are very excited about our training sessions happening across the country over the next couple of months. To ensure you're in the best possible position to run Alpha (especially as a part of the Easter Invitation), Alpha is facilitating training events in most capital cities as well as some online training sessions.
We do not want you or your team to miss out as we know how essential it is to train your team every time you run Alpha. The benefit of these events is that you and your team can interact directly with our team, ask questions and meet other churches facilitating Alpha so you can share ideas.

Alpha Introductory Session - Is There More To Life Than This?
We really encourage you to run the Alpha Introductory Session, “Is There More To Life Than This”. We understand that some churches haven't always included this first session due to wanting to fit Alpha into a school term. However, the radio promotions for this year's Easter Invitation will primarily focus on inviting people to this beginning session. We know that it's a great way to introduce people to Alpha because it raises the question about the meaning of life. This particular small group gathering is more about getting to know each other and it's not as spiritually deep as the following sessions. This allows unchurched guests to get a taste without feeling overwhelmed.
Key tips for running your introductory session:
- Atmosphere - create a welcoming & inclusive atmosphere by making sure you welcome your guests and make them feel special. Try to avoid religious conversation/language as it can be unfamiliar for your guests.
- Decor - first impressions count so think about how your venue will look to a guest coming for the first time. Decor is a great way to create warm atmosphere such as candles, flowers, soft lighting and live music.
- Food - you may have a sit down dinner but it is a good idea to have some refreshments and nibbles for when guests arrive. One important thing is not to say grace before the food, so that the guests don't feel alienated. It might be something church groups do but we're often reaching unchurched guests.
- Music - a live band is a great way to create a vibrant atmosphere. Just make sure that the music isn’t too loud for guests to chat. Avoid using Christian music or songs as this also may alienate the guests who come to your Alpha. CDs are a fabulous alternative, if a band is not available.
