I’m not sure what impression you have of God but this picture by Charlie Mackesy entitled Prodigal Son. It is based on a story Jesus told about a son who left his family home to go and live life his own way. At first things went well, he had friends and many parties to attend but eventually the money and the friends dried up and he found himself alone, hungry and homeless. He realises that he would be better off even as an employee in his father’s business so sets off towards home. I imagine as he is walking he is practicing what he is going to say to his dad. He thinks his dad will be angry with him and won’t want him back. (I say this because my story is similar to his.)
What happens next for is totally unexpected. His father is standing on the road and while he is still a long way off sees his son coming and filled with love and compassion runs to meet him and hugs and kisses him. His father then throws a party, a huge feast, because his son who was lost has come home!
I don’t know where you are with God but if you think he has given up on you and is mad with you, this is not true. God loves you and you need to know that Jesus died so that you can have an intimate relationship with God as your Father.
I encourage you to visit a church near you this weekend and connect with this loving and compassionate God.
